When my daughter went into labor with my first grandchild, I remember that we left for the trip to the hospital right away…not knowing then, of course, that it was to be a very long labor.  It was a bitter cold January in Indiana.  A mix of snow and sleet was falling at the time, and the roads were quite icy; but absolutely nothing would have kept us away.  I remember right after my grandson was born, my daughter looked at me through those happy tears and said, “Mom, do you want to hold him?”  As I held him and looked into the face of my newborn grandson, a love for that sweet baby washed over me.  Then it dawned on me…I’m a grandmother.  With each grandchild that followed, the love for all of my grandchildren grew deeper still.  I truly love every single moment of being Grandmommy

I have six beautiful grandchildren…one grandson and five granddaughters (they’re all pictured above except for my precious adopted Peruvian granddaughter).  Unfortunately, they all live much too far away…three in Iowa and three in Peru where my older son is a missionary doctor.  Honestly, if my heart could make one wish…if I could have absolutely anything I wanted right now, I’d wish to have ALL my grandchildren here for a visit with me – altogether – at the same time.  There would be slumber parties, lots of cookie baking, a tour to the wildlife center, long walks all over the farm, and all sorts of arts and crafts.  We’d read lots of wonderful books and play…definitely play.  (The photo above was made almost twenty months ago at the wedding…where all my precious grandchildren were the stars and the last time I had them altogether at one time.)

Can you tell I’m missing my grandchildren a wee bit…well, okay, a lot?!

Oh Dianne, I pray that one day you’ll have all your beautiful grandchildren gathered together for lots of fun and cuddles with Gandmommy!! I look forward to the day that I will be a grandmother, of course with my oldest being only 12 I’m not in a hurry, but am still excited with the thought, and can only imagine how hard it would be to have them all scattered about and too far away to visit with all the time. (((HUGS)))

My Other Blog…

My Southern Heart...the Stories blog is about my life growing up in the South in the fifties and sixties. It was an amazing time...a time of falling in love, getting married, having a family. A time of history in the making, political unrest, rock and roll. Come along on my life's journey. It's a chronological story, so be sure to start at the beginning. It will make a whole lot more sense that way. Check out: My Southern Heart...the Stories
